About the event
This course equips law enforcement officers with practical tools to safely and effectively respond to mental health related calls. Participants will learn to identify common mental health disorders, manage encounters with emotionally disturbed persons, apply de-escalation strategies, and make legally sound decisions, including proper application of Maine’s Yellow Flag Law. The training also addresses officer safety, documentation considerations, and officer mental health and wellness, with a focus on reducing risk, improving outcomes, and supporting long-term resiliency.
